This green basilisk lizard has a remarkable talentwalking (or, more accurately, running) on water, at speeds of around 1.5 meters (five feet) per second. While they are also strong swimmers and can spend up to 30 minutes underwater, they spend most of their time in the trees that make up the rainforests of Central America. Males have a distinctive crest on their heads, which is used to impress females in the hope of mating. Eggs are laid in shallow trenches by pregnant mothers, where they are left to hatch, and young are born with the ability to run, swim and climb
